Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has written a letter to Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud in the matter of appointment of judges in Supreme Court and High Court. According to sources, it has been suggested to include representatives of the government in the High Court and Supreme Court collegiums. The letter suggested involving representatives of the government in the constitutional process of appointing judges. The government said in the letter that it was necessary “to communicate transparency and public accountability”.
Eariler Addressing a program last month, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar had said that the Supreme Court struck down the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) Act. There was no discussion about this in the Parliament. It was a very serious and shocking matter. He said that the judiciary can never become the legislature or the executive as any intrusion of one organ of governance into the working of another can disturb the system of governance.
