Land Dispute: Jharkhand Court Sentences Couple to Life Term for Murder

Chaibasa court in Jharkhand has sentenced a couple to life imprisonment for beating a man to death over a land dispute.

The Principal District and Session Court found Lakhan Hembram and his wife Laxmi Hembram guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment under IPC section 302. Additionally, the court imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convicted couple.

The case pertains to an incident which occurred on January 15, 2022, in Nischitpur village within the jurisdiction of the Manjhari police station.

As per the FIR filed, the couple assaulted Laxman, the victim, and his wife Janki Hembram with lathis during a dispute over land. Unfortunately, Laxman sustained severe head injuries and succumbed to them on the spot, while Janki also suffered injuries in the altercation.
