Land-For-Job Case: CBI Granted Time To File Supplementary Chargesheet

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday granted more time to the CBI to file a supplementary charge sheet in the alleged land-for-a-job scam.

Special judge Geetanjali Goel granted the CBI additional time to include new facts in the ongoing case.

Former Chief Minister of Bihar, Rabri Devi, and RJD MP Misa Bharti were present during the court proceedings.

While granting the extension, the court expressed displeasure with the CBI for continuously delaying the matter, emphasizing the need for expeditious proceedings. The next hearing is scheduled for July 12.

Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Union Railway Minister, sought an exemption from appearance due to medical reasons. The chargesheet filed by the CBI in connection with the alleged land-for-job scam highlighted irregular appointments in the Central Railway, violating recruitment norms and procedures.

The investigation revealed that candidates, in exchange for their appointments, sold land to Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family members at significantly discounted rates. The court had previously taken cognizance of the chargesheet, acknowledging the commission of various offenses.

The CBI filed the chargesheet in October last year, naming Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, Misa Bharti, and others as accused in the case.

The alleged scam took place during Yadav’s tenure as Railway Minister between 2004 and 2009.

The investigation revealed anomalies in the candidates’ applications and documents, indicating irregularities in their appointments.
