The Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday adjourned the hearing on arguments related to the framing of charges against former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi in the ongoing land-for-job scam case.
The matter, being heard by Special Judge Vishal Gogne, was scheduled for recording arguments on behalf of Rabri Devi. However, the court deferred the proceedings until Monday following a request from the defence.
Lawyers’ Strike Halts Proceedings
Advocate Akhilesh Singh Rawat, appearing for Rabri Devi, informed the court that a lawyers’ strike was ongoing, and the senior counsel representing her was unavailable. He requested an adjournment citing these circumstances.
A representative from the Rouse Avenue Bar Association also appeared before the judge and reiterated the request, urging the court to consider the ongoing strike and cooperate with the legal fraternity by postponing the hearing.
Notably, the court had refused to adjourn the matter on Friday, directing it to proceed as scheduled on Saturday. However, in light of continued non-availability of legal representation due to the strike, the judge agreed to reschedule the hearing for Monday.
CBI Completes Arguments; Accused Yet To Present Their Case
The case is being heard by a special CBI court at Rouse Avenue, where arguments on framing of charges are currently underway. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has already concluded its submissions.
The investigation agency has filed charge sheets against over 100 individuals, including senior political figures such as Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, and Tejashwi Yadav. The CBI alleges that individuals were appointed to Group D posts in the Railways in exchange for land parcels — a scheme allegedly orchestrated during Lalu Prasad’s tenure as Railway Minister.
With the CBI’s arguments concluded, the focus now shifts to the defence arguments of the accused. However, the ongoing lawyers’ strike has delayed proceedings. The court will reconvene on Monday, when it is expected to resume hearing the defence’s case on whether charges should be formally framed.
