The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday moved before the Principal District and Sessions Court in Chennai seeking action against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President K Annamalai for levelling defamatory charges against Chief Minister MK Stalin. The complaint has been moved through the City Prosecutor.
Annamalai released the ‘DMK Files’ on May 14th, saying that several members of the ruling DMK party, including the CM, were involved in corruption. He stated that the CM received Rs 200 crore from an Indo-European shell business for awarding tenders.
According to the criminal defamation petition, Annamalai’s speech was intended to harm the CM’s reputation in regard to his conduct in the discharge of his public function.
It is further claimed that the defamatory speech was delivered during a press conference without any basis or evidence and was widely carried by the media.
According to the petition, the speech has the potential to seriously damage the Chief Minister’s reputation.
The public prosecutor stated that the CM has made every effort to promote social fairness and state autonomy, citing the several welfare packages enacted by the CM. As a result, he claimed that the statements were against good faith and had no public benefit.
