SC Collegium Recommends To Elevate Adv Arun Kumar As Allahabad HC Judge

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended that Advocate Arun Kumar be elevated to the Allahabad High Court as a Judge.

The Collegium revealed that it had previously deferred the High Court Collegium’s recommendation in this regard in view of some IB reports. However, because the Bureau lacked “verifiable material” in response to the objections, the Collegium decided to recommend his name to the Centre.

The Collegium further highlighted that Kumar has 25 years of practice at the Bar and has legal experience of conducting a wide range of cases before the High Court in constitution, civil, and revenue jurisdiction. Furthermore, three consultee-judges had positively opined about his suitability.

According to a statement issued in this regard, “On 03 May 2023, the Department of Justice forwarded to the Supreme Court a report dated 01 February 2023 of the Intelligence Bureau stating that they do not have any additional inputs in addition to the earlier inputs. Given the foregoing, and keeping in mind that the Intelligence Bureau has provided no additional or specific inputs or verifiable material, the Collegium concludes that the candidate is “eminently fit and suitable for appointment as a Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad.”
