Indian 2
The Madurai District Court has postponed the hearing of a petition seeking to ban the release of the highly anticipated film “Indian 2,” starring superstar Kamal Haasan.
Directed by Shankar, the sequel to the legendary film “Indian” boasts an ensemble cast including Kamal Haasan, Samuthirakani, Bobby Simha, Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, and Priya Bhavani Shankar.
Aasan Rajendran, head teacher at the Varmakalai Martial Arts and Research Academy in Madurai’s HMS Colony, filed the petition. Rajendran claims Kamal Haasan consulted him for Varmakalai techniques during the original “Indian” and credited his contributions. However, he alleges that “Indian 2” uses these techniques without his permission, prompting his request to ban the movie’s release in theaters and on OTT platforms.
The case was heard on Monday in the Madurai District Court. The court has rescheduled the hearing to July 11 after the “Indian 2” film crew requested more time to respond to Rajendran’s petition.
“Indian 2” is the sequel to the 1996 film “Indian,” in which Kamal Haasan played the role of Veerasekaran Senapathy. The franchise reunites Kamal Haasan with director S. Shankar for the sequel. The first poster of “Indian 2” was unveiled during the Pongal festival in 2020, featuring vigilante Senapathy (Kamal Haasan) with his trademark twisted finger in handcuffed hands.
The film features music by Anirudh Ravichander, with writers Jayamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu, and Lakshmi Saravanakumar contributing to the script. Produced by Lyca Productions, “Indian 2” is set to release on July 12.
