Madurai Court Sentences Man to 10 YO Rigorous Imprisonment for Acid Attack

The Madurai Mahila Court has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for throwing acid on college girls.

In 2014, S Sankaranarayanan attack two college girls near their educational institution in Tirumangalam with an acid.

Meena and Angaleshwari, the victims, were subsequently admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital, with recorded burn percentages of 25 and 15, respectively.

In light of the case’s gravity and the considerable physical and psychological anguish endured by the afflicted women, the court asserted that leniency in sentencing would be inappropriate.

Consequently, severe punishment was deemed necessary, as confirmed by officials. Alongside the imprisonment, the court also levied a fine of Rs 40,000 on the accused.
