A resident of Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district has sought compensation of over Rs 10,000 crore from the state government as he was falsely implicated in a gang rape case. He was jailed for 2 years and faced mental and social trauma, and his family was also on the brink of starvation.
The hearing of This case against the MP government and the investigators will be held on January 10. Kantilal has sought compensation of over Rs 10,000 crore for loss of business, profession, loss of reputation and goodwill as well as physical injury and mental agony, to the loss of family life and opportunities for education and career advancement, and to the “loss of God’s gifts to humans such as, sexual pleasure”.
Kantilal also seeks an amount of 2 lakhs to cover the cost of litigation during his time in jail. Kantilal Bheel (35), moved the district and sessions court after getting acquitted on October 20, 2022, over the gang rape charges, said his lawyer Vijay Singh Yadav.
In his petition, Bheel said he was the sole food provider for his family when the police arrested him in the fake gang rape case on December 23, 2020. Bheel’s lawyer Yadav said that Bheel supported his aging mother, wife, and their three children.
According to the sources, while talking about his suffering, Kantilal Bheel said, “I can’t describe the suffering I went through during those two years of imprisonment. My family can’t even afford innerwear. I faced extreme weather, like heat and cold, without clothes in prison.”
Further, he said, “The imprisonment caused a skin disease and some other ailments, including a permanent headache that traumatize me even after my release,” and I am the sole bread-earner for my family of six. “Imagine what they went through without me,” and now I want payback for every day I was locked up behind bars.
According to Bheel’s lawyer Vijay Singh Yadav, a woman filed a complaint on July 20, 2018, against Bheel at Manasa police station, accusing him of raping her on the pretext of dropping her at her brother’s home, and later Bheel handed her over to another person whom she claimed raped her for six months before allowing her to go.
Later, on October 10 last year, a sessions court acquitted both the accused, observing that the prosecution failed to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
