Man Convicted for Attempting to Murder Wife by Firing Country-Made Pistol

A man has been found guilty of attempting to murder his wife by shooting her with a country-made pistol nearly five years ago, according to a recent judgment by Additional Sessions Judge Vipin Kharb. The accused, Ravinder Singh, fired at his wife, Poonam, with the intent to kill her on September 4, 2018. The prosecution presented evidence that during a verbal altercation, Singh retrieved a gun from another room and shot his wife after she urged him not to quarrel, considering their children were growing up.

The court, after assessing the evidence, determined that the prosecution had successfully proven the charges beyond reasonable doubt. As a result, Ravinder Singh was convicted for offenses under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and the Arms Act. The court considered the victim’s testimony as reliable and trustworthy, supported by medical evidence and the depositions of her daughter and brother.

According to the medical report, the bullet struck the victim’s stomach and exited from her right gluteal region. The court observed that Singh’s actions clearly indicated his intention to cause his wife’s death, as he deliberately brought the pistol into the living room to fire at her.

The prosecution also established that Singh possessed a country-made pistol with two live cartridges and one empty cartridge, without a valid license, making him liable for punishment under the Arms Act. The court has scheduled the sentencing arguments for August 10. The case was registered at the Uttam Nagar police station.
