In a landmark case highlighting the efficacy of the ‘Operation Conviction’ campaign, a man was sentenced to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 5-year-old girl in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The Additional Sessions Judge/Special Judge, POCSO Act (Exclusive), delivered the verdict within 26 days of the crime, marking a significant achievement in expediting justice for minor victims.
Accused and Legal Proceedings
The accused, identified as Khurshid Alam alias Mohammad Hamza from Syed Alipur in the Jafarabad area, was convicted under sections 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and sections 5M/6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The investigation, led by Jai Prakash Yadav, was completed within 24 hours, and the chargesheet was promptly submitted. The rapid prosecution and sentencing were part of a coordinated effort between the Monitoring Cell and the Prosecution

This case stands out as the first in Uttar Pradesh to be concluded in such a remarkably short period under the new legal framework. The swift judicial action underscores the state’s commitment to delivering timely justice and serves as a model for handling cases involving crimes against minors.
