Man Sentenced to Death for Raping and Murdering Minor Girl in a “Rarest of Rare” Case
In Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, a man named Banvari was sentenced to death by a POCSO court on Tuesday for the heinous crime of raping and killing a minor girl. Additionally, the court imposed a fine of Rs 1.30 lakh on him.
The incident occurred on August 31, 2020, when the victim, a nine-year-old girl, and her cousin went to a village shop but never returned. A complaint was lodged by a resident of the village, and it was later discovered that Banvari had lured the young girl and her body was found in a jungle the following day.
Upon interrogation, Banvari confessed to his atrocious acts, admitting that he raped the girl and murdered her out of fear of being identified.
A case was registered against Banvari under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
During the proceedings, the Additional Session Judge Ram Kishor deemed this case as an exceptionally rare and severe one. Consequently, Banvari was sentenced to death. Moreover, the court ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 1.30 lakh, with 80 per cent of the amount to be given to the family members of the deceased girl.
