A court in Mayurbhanj (Odisha) has sentenced a 17-year-old boy to ten years of imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl.
Mayurbhanj district additional sessions judge, Satyanarayan Patra, also levied a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict, as per additional special public prosecutor Krushna Chandra Das.
If he fails to comply, he will be imprisoned for another two months, according to Das.
The judgement was pronounced based on the minor victim’s statement, 14 witnesses and a medical report.
Das stated that the convicted youth will be kept in the Rourkela (juvenile home) until the age of 21, at which point he will be transferred to Circle Jail Baripada.
On June 15, 2022, an incident occurred in Upperbeda village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Jharpokharia Police Station.

Later, based on the victim’s father’s complaint, the Jharpokharia police filed a case under various sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act.
According to police sources, the accused was arrested and brought before a court.
