A Chennai sessions court on Monday extended former Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji’s remand until April 17, 2024.
Balaji was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in June 2023 in a money laundering case.
Principal Sessions Judge S Alli presided over the proceedings, during which the DMK leader was presented via video-conferencing from the Central Puzhal Prison.
The judge prolonged his judicial custody until April 17. Meanwhile, the judge is scheduled to deliver orders on Wednesday regarding a petition filed by Balaji, seeking to reopen arguments on his behalf in his discharge petition in the case. Balaji’s arguments were concluded on March 22.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Balaji in connection with the money laundering case associated with a cash-for-jobs scam during his tenure as the Transport Minister in a previous AIADMK administration. Thus far, his numerous bail pleas have been dismissed by the courts.
