Money Laundering: Chennai Court Issues Notice to ED on Senthil Balaji’s Discharge Plea

Senthil Balaji

A Chennai court issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday regarding the discharge plea of arrested ex-minister V Senthil Balaji in a money laundering case. D V Aanand, III Additional Judge at the City Civil and Sessions Court, ordered the issuance of the notice returnable by March 4.

Balaji had filed a petition seeking discharge from the money laundering case last week. The court extended Balaji’s remand till March 4, after the former minister was produced before it by the prosecution through video-conferencing from the Central Puzhal Prison.

The DMK leader was arrested on June 14, 2023, by the ED in connection with a money laundering case related to a cash-for-jobs scam during his tenure as the Transport Minister in an earlier AIADMK regime. Governor RN Ravi accepted his resignation as a Minister from the M K Stalin-led state cabinet last week.
