Most Divorces Arise From Love Marriages: SC

The Supreme Court today remarked that divorces seem to be arising from love marriages.

The bench of Justices BR Gavai & Sanjay Karol heard a transfer petition arising out of a matrimonial dispute when a counsel in the case informed the Court that the marriage was a ‘love marriage’.

Justice Gavai responded by stating that, “Most divorces are arising from love marriages only.”

Therefore, Court proposed mediation, which was opposed by the husband.

However, the Court stated that in response to a recent judgment, it could grant a divorce without his consent.

Subsequently, the bench was called for mediation.
