A court in Madhya Pradesh’s Narmadapuram district sentenced a 22-year-old man to death on Wednesday for the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl.
The Second Additional Sessions Judge of Sohagpur, Suresh Kumar Choubey, convicted Kishan, also known as Chhinu Machhiya, under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, according to district prosecution officer Rajkumar Nema.
In the judgment, the judge quoted verses from the Ramcharit Manas, stating that the “rape of every innocent girl is a rarest of rare incident, and such cases of rape and murder cannot be considered normal in any way.”
The tragic incident occurred on December 25, 2021, when the girl went missing from her home. Her body was later found on a rooftop, and investigations revealed she had been subjected to unnatural sexual assault before being strangled. The girl’s elder brother told the police that Machhiya had come to the roof while they were playing, and he forced the boy to leave.
Forensic evidence, including DNA samples from the crime scene, matched with the accused, confirming his involvement in the crime.
