MP-MLA court sentences JDU leader Dhananjay Singh to 7 years Imprisonment

A day after being convicted in the case of kidnapping and extortion, powerful former MP and National General Secretary of Janata Dal-United (JDU) Dhananjay Singh was sentenced by the MPMLA court On March 6. The court has sentenced Dhananjay Singh to 7 years imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 50 thousand on him. Dhananjay Singh has been sentenced to more than 2 years, so he will no longer be able to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

According to the Representation of the People Act, if an MP or MLA is sentenced to two years or more, he immediately loses his membership and cannot contest elections for the next six years. It is known that Dhananjay Singh was a former MP, so now he has been sentenced for more than 2 years and it has become difficult for him to contest elections.

District government advocate Satish Pandey said that Muzaffarnagar resident Abhinav Singhal, manager of Namami Gange project, had filed a case against former MP Dhananjay Singh and his partner Vikram at Linebazar police station in Jaunpur on May 10, 2020, on charges of kidnapping and extortion. In this case, it was alleged that Vikram along with his two associates first kidnapped her and then took her to the residence of former MP Dhananjay Singh. He told that Singhal had alleged that Dhananjay Singh had come there with a pistol and after abusing and threatening, had demanded extortion.
