MSRTC Ordered To Compensate Boy 6 Years After Accident Left Him Disabled

The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Mumbai has directed the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) to pay ₹21 lakh as compensation to a 14-year-old boy who suffered permanent disability in a 2017 road accident involving an MSRTC bus.

The incident occurred on September 10, 2017, when the boy was traveling with his mother on an MSRTC bus from Wada to Jawhar in Thane district.

Due to the driver’s rash and negligent driving, the bus collided with another vehicle near Vasuri village, resulting in severe injuries to the boy’s right hand.

He underwent multiple surgeries and was left with a permanent disability, affecting his ability to perform daily activities.

The MACT, after examining medical reports and witness testimonies, concluded that the accident was a result of the bus driver’s negligence. The tribunal awarded ₹21 lakh in compensation, which includes medical expenses, loss of future earnings, and pain and suffering. The amount is to be paid with an interest of 7% per annum from the date of filing the claim until the payment is made.

This ruling underscores the accountability of public transport authorities in ensuring passenger safety and provides relief to victims of negligence.
