A Mumbai Court has denied bail to a 32-year-old lifeguard who was arrested for murdering a 22-year-old medical student.
Additional sessions judge Priya Bankar denied bail to the accused, Mithu Singh, who was arrested for the murder of Sadiccha Sane.
The arrest took place in January under charges of murder (section 302) and destruction of evidence (section 201) according to the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Sadiccha Sane, a third-year MBBS student at Sir JJ Hospital and Grant Medical College, went missing after heading to appear for exams by train on November 29, 2021. She was last seen at Bandra Bandstand. Concerned, her parents reported her disappearance to the local police station.
Investigations revealed that Sane was last seen at Bandra Bandstand, where she encountered Singh, a lifeguard. The two took a selfie together.
The Mumbai crime branch apprehended Singh in January following these developments. In the course of interrogation, Singh confessed to killing Sane and disposing of her body near the Bandstand. The denial of bail means Singh will remain in custody as legal proceedings continue.
