Mumbai Court Granted Bail To Sapna Gill And Three Others Accused Of Assaulting Prithvi Shaw

A Magistrate Court in Mumbai on Monday granted bail to Sapna Gill, a social media influencer, and three others accused of assaulting Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw and his friends outside the Sahara Star Hotel in Mumbai’s Santacruz area.

On February 17, the Oshiwara police station in Mumbai arrested Gill and others for allegedly abusing and attacking Shaw on February 15 and damaging his car. Shaw and his friends were having dinner at Hotel Sahara Star’s cafe, according to the complaint.

Shaw claimed that after taking a few selfies with him, Gill and Thakur began harassing him for more photos. The two allegedly misbehaved with Shaw after he refused to pose for more selfies.

When Shaw and his friend were leaving the hotel at 4 a.m., Gill and others arrived on motorcycles and in cars and abused Shaw and his friend.

According to the complaint, one of the accused used a bat to break the rear windshield of the car. Following this, Gill threatened Shaw with a false complaint and demanded ₹50,000 to back off.

Based on Shaw’s complaint, an FIR was filed against Gill, Thakur, and others for rioting, extortion, and criminal intimidation under the IPC.

After viewing the video recording of the incident, the Oshiwara police department invoked Section 387 of the IPC (putting a person in fear of death or grievous harm in order to commit extortion).

The provision is punishable with imprisonment upto seven years.
