Mumbai Terror Attack: Delhi Court Extends Accused Tahawwur Rana’s Judicial Custody Till Aug 13

The judicial custody of Tahawwur Rana, accused in the 2008 Mumbai 26/11 terror attacks, was extended by a Delhi court on Wednesday until August 13.

This extension follows the National Investigation Agency filing a supplementary chargesheet against him, which includes his arrest documents, seizure memos, and other relevant evidence.

Rana has been facing charges since 2012 in connection with the attacks that claimed 166 lives across Mumbai, including the infamous siege at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.

Earlier this week, Rana made significant disclosures to the Mumbai Crime Branch, claiming he acted as a trusted agent of the Pakistan Army and was present in Mumbai during the attacks.

Previously, the court had extended his custody until July 9. Upon expiry, he was produced before Special Judge Chander Jit Singh through video conferencing.

Amid concerns over his health, Rana’s counsel requested the court to monitor his condition. Accordingly, the Patiala House Court instructed Tihar Jail officials to file a status report on his health by June 9.

Rana, extradited from the US in April after the Supreme Court of the United States rejected his plea against extradition, is suspected of providing David Headley with handwritten notes containing tactical details like instructions, maps, and coordinates that were used to plan and execute the 26/11 attacks.

The NIA intends to take Rana to Mumbai and other locations as part of reconstructing the sequence of events leading up to the attacks.

Currently, Rana stands trial for his alleged involvement in orchestrating one of the deadliest terror attacks in India’s history.
