Mutiny Case: Pakistan’s Former PM Imran Khan Gets Bail

The Supreme Court today granted protective bail to former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan till May 3 in a mutiny case.

Earlier this month, Magistrate Manzoor Ahmed Khan filed a first information report (FIR) at Ramna police station, Islamabad against the ousted prime minister for “spreading hate between the institutions & public”, also for “trying to cause inexcusable damage to the institutions and their top officers”.

Therefore, the FIR was registered under Sections 138, 500, 505 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Previously, Khan filed for bail in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) where Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the whole case and further approved his bail against surety bonds of amount of Rs 100,000.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief traveled from Lahore to Islamabad for the case, where the police took stringent measures for his protection.

Khan then, stated that he requested Fawad Chaudhry and Shah Mehmood Qureshi for initiating talks with the government only if the ruling party was prepared to dissolve the assemblies & holding elections.
Further, Khan stated in the presence of both Chaudhry and Qureshi that, “There’s no need to proceed if they insist on holding polls in September or October.”

As per the Constitution, elections shall be held within 90 days after the dissolution of the lower house. This signifies that the election must be held by the mid-October.

The last general election was held in July 2018.
