A special POCSO court in Nagaland’s Phek district has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the rape of a minor girl in 2022.
Special Judge Neiko Akami, in the conviction order, found the accused guilty of committing penetrative sexual assault on an 11-year-old girl. The assault took place on December 13, 2022, when the victim, accompanied by her friends, had gone to a jungle to collect firewood. Following a week of being on the run, the accused surrendered to the Chozuba Women Police Station in the district.
The court has also ordered the payment of Rs 1 lakh as compensation to the victim, considering the trauma and physical injuries she suffered as a result of the incident.
