NEET Paper Leak: Patna Court Remands Accused Individuals to CBI Custody

The Special CBI Court in Patna has granted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)’s request to place two accused in custody in connection with the NEET question paper leak case.

Accused Baldev Kumar Alias Chintu and Mukesh Kumar have been remanded to CBI custody as part of the ongoing investigation into the NEET-UG question paper leak. Currently, a total of 18 accused are under custody for interrogation.

The hearing in the NEET paper leak case concluded on Wednesday before CBI Special Judicial Magistrate Harsh Vardhan Singh. The CBI court has approved the CBI’s application to take the accused, Chintu Kumar and Mukesh Kumar, into its remand. The CBI will now proceed with further interrogation.

Following controversies surrounding alleged “irregularities” in the NEET-UG exam held on May 5, the Union Health Ministry postponed the NEET-PG 2024 examination scheduled for June 23.

Abhijat Sheth, President of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, announced that SOPs and protocols will be reviewed promptly, with a new examination date expected to be announced next week.

In response to the issues raised, the Bihar government has transferred the investigation of the 2024 NEET-UG paper leak case to the CBI for a thorough investigation.

The CBI has formed specialized teams to investigate the matter following a decision by the central government to entrust the agency with the investigation of alleged irregularities, cheating, impersonation, and malpractices reported during the NEET-UG exams.
