The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has instructed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to investigate a complaint alleging that “Rajinder Da Dhaba” in Safdarjung Enclave is violating environmental norms and creating a nuisance in the area.
The president of the AB Block Market Welfare Association submitted to the NGT that the dhaba has illegally kept a generator and is using tandoors in the open.
However, the dhaba’s CEO has denied the allegations made in the complaint. Shreyank Dua, CEO of Rajinder Da Dhaba, stated, “We don’t use coal-based tandoors. Our tandoors are gas-based and are kept inside the establishment. We have licenses from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee and other agencies.”
He added, “We have an old generator set, which we used during long power cuts in Delhi. Since Delhi does not witness power cuts now, we will sell this DG set. There is no noise pollution. It seems that a complaint has been filed due to personal vendetta.”
The bench, headed by Justice Prakash Shrivastava, stated, “Considering the nature of the grievance raised by the applicant, we are of the opinion that the complaint made by the applicant needs to be duly considered by the chairman, DPCC. Requisite action is required to be taken after ascertaining the correct position and giving the parties an opportunity of hearing if any violation is found.”
