NIA Court Sentences Hizb-Ut-Tahrir Cadre To 5 Yrs For Promoting Terror Ideology

A Special Court in Chennai has recently sentenced Abdullah, also known as Saravana Kumar, to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment for promoting the divisive and violent ideology of Hizb-Ut-Tahrir, a banned terrorist organization.

Alongside his prison term, Abdullah was fined Rs.10,000 for various offenses under the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The court found him guilty of inciting others to engage in unlawful activities.

According to the National Investigation Agency, Abdullah sought to associate with HuT with the intent to further its extremist goals. HuT, a radical organization, aims to establish a global caliphate by dismantling democratically elected governments, including those in India.

“NIA investigations revealed that the accused had attempted to associate himself with the proscribed organization with the intent of furthering its nefarious activities. He had also sought support for HuT,” stated the NIA.

The investigation found that Abdullah, using the Facebook alias “Abdullah ibn Subramanian,” made several posts in 2021 aiming to undermine India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Through his posts, he expressed discontent with the Indian government, attempting to incite disaffection and urging others to engage in actions against the State, potentially disturbing public peace.

The NIA also revealed that these actions were part of Abdullah’s larger attempt to foster an anti-government sentiment and provoke unlawful activities against India’s stability and security.

This conviction underscores the Indian judicial system’s zero tolerance for acts that endanger national security and encourage anti-state activities. The stringent sentencing reflects a firm stance against individuals found guilty of spreading radical ideology and attempting to destabilize the nation’s peace and order.
