No Relief for Suraj Revanna, Bengaluru Court Rejects Bail Plea in Sexual Abuse Case

A Bengaluru Court on Tuesday denied the bail application of Karnataka Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Suraj Revanna in sexual abuse case.

Suraj is the elder son of HD Revanna and brother of Prajwal Revanna.

Magistrate KN Shivakumar dismissed the application after considering the objections raised by the prosecution.

Special Public Prosecutor Ashok Naik had opposed Suraj’s bail plea, arguing that there was prima facie evidence against the accused and that the allegations were grave, potentially attracting the maximum punishment of life imprisonment. He also contended that there was a risk of Suraj tampering with evidence if released on bail.

On June 23, Suraj Revanna was arrested by the Hassan Police following his interrogation a day earlier.

A first information report (FIR) was filed against him under Sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (illegal detention), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (acts committed by several persons with a common intention) based on a complaint filed by a youth. The complainant had informed the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Home Minister that Suraj Revanna had engaged in non-consensual sexual intercourse with him at Gannigada Farm House in Channarayapatna taluk.
