A court in Rajasthan’s Pali district has sentenced a man to death for raping a minor girl and murdering her along with her younger brother.
The convict, 22-year-old Arjun Singh of Aasan Jodhwan village in the Siriyari area of Pali district, was also slapped with a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
Judge Anwar Ahmad Chauhan, while delivering the verdict, emphasized the severity of the crime, stating, “The accused has committed a heinous crime, so capital punishment is warranted.” Public Prosecutor Khemaram Patel detailed that Arjun Singh was convicted of raping a 10-year-old girl and, on May 1, brutally crushing both the girl and her 13-year-old brother with a stone while they were grazing their goats.
Public Prosecutor Khemaram Patel also said, “When they did not return home, the police and family members initiated a search for them. Their mutilated bodies were discovered the next day.”
The post-mortem examination confirmed the sexual assault on the girl. Khemaram Patel further explained, “After raping her, the accused murdered the girl. Upon hearing her screams, her brother arrived at the scene. Fearing identification, the accused brutally attacked and killed her brother as well.”
The court, in its judgment, convicted Arjun Singh of both the rape and the double murder. He received a life sentence until death under the POCSO Act for the rape and a death sentence in the double-murder case.
A monetary penalty of Rs 5 lakh was also imposed on Arjun Singh.
