Parliament Security Breach: Court Extends Police Custody of Accused Mahesh Kumawat till Jan 5

Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Saturday extended the police custody of Mahesh Kumawat until January 5 in connection with the Parliament security breach case on Saturday.

Special Judge Hardeep Kaur granted the extension based on an application filed by the Delhi Police, emphasizing the necessity to interrogate Kumawat further to unravel the entire conspiracy.

The police informed the court that Kumawat’s questioning was essential to uncover the motives behind the accused’s actions, stating that he “wanted to create anarchy in the country so that they can compel the government to meet their unjust and illegal demands.” The prosecution emphasized the need for custody to ascertain the actual motive behind the attack and Kumawat’s alleged association with an enemy country and terrorist organizations.

According to the Delhi Police, Kumawat voluntarily appeared at a police station with co-accused Lalit Jha on Thursday night. Both individuals were subsequently handed over to the Special Cell, and Kumawat has been under interrogation since then.

The police revealed that Kumawat was a member of the now-deleted Bhagat Singh Fan Club page, which was created by the accused. Kumawat faces charges of destruction of evidence and criminal conspiracy.

Earlier, the court had extended the custody of four other accused individuals – Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Amol Dhanraj Shinde, and Neelam Devi – until January 5. Lalit Jha’s police custody was also extended on Friday until January 5.
