Delhi’s Patiala House Court has extended the judicial custody of the six individuals arrested in connection with the Parliament security breach case until January 27, 2024.
Additional Sessions Judge Hardeep Kaur ordered the remand of Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Lalit Jha, Amol Shinde, Mahesh Kumawat, and Neelam Azad in judicial custody following their appearance before the court at the conclusion of their police remand.
The court passed the order on an application filed by the Delhi police, seeking judicial custody for all the accused as the investigation continues. During the hearing, Neelam Azad, one of the accused, alleged before the court that a woman officer had forcibly compelled her to sign over 50 blank papers on Friday.
Special Public Prosecutor Akhand Pratap Singh raised objections to the allegations and submissions made by the accused. The court recorded the statements presented by both parties.
In a significant security breach on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, Sharma and Manoranjan leapt into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour. They released yellow gas from canisters, shouted slogans, and were subsequently subdued by the Members of Parliament. Concurrently, two other accused, Shinde and Azad, sprayed colored gas from canisters outside the Parliament premises while chanting “tanashahi nahi chalegi.”
