Parliament Security Breach: Five Out of Six Accused Gives Consent for Polygraph Test, Custody Extended by 8 Days

Five out of the six accused individuals arrested in connection with the Parliament security breach on Friday consented before Patiala House Court to undergo their polygraph test.

Additional Sessions Judge Hardeeep Kaur also granted an eight-day extension to the police custody of all the accused individuals—Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Amol Dhanraj Shinde, Neelam Azad, Lalit Jha, and Mahesh Kumawat.

The judge extended the custody of the accused persons based on an application filed by the Delhi Police after they were presented before the court at the expiration of their previously granted custody.

With the exception of Azad, all the accused provided their consent for the polygraph test before the court. The Delhi Police had earlier sought the court’s permission to conduct the polygraph test on all the accused persons.

Following a significant security breach on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack on December 13, two individuals-Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D leapt into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during the Zero Hour. They released yellow gas from canisters, shouted slogans, and were subsequently subdued by MPs.

Simultaneously, two other accused—Amol Shinde and Azad—sprayed colored gas from canisters while shouting “tanashahi nahi chalegi” (dictatorship will not be tolerated) outside the Parliament premises.
