The Delhi Patiala House Court on Wednesday has remanded Deepak Boxer to 2 days of special cell custody in an extortion case linked to a recent shooting incident at a sweet shop in the Nangloi area.
Deepak Pahal, also known as Deepak Boxer, was brought to court following a fresh arrest from Tihar Jail. He is scheduled to appear before the court again on October 18.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Abhishek Kumar authorized the police custody, as authorities aim to investigate the extortion offense and uncover the supply chain of illegal weapons used in the crime. Alongside Boxer, four other accused—Jatin, Akash, Hariom, and Ankesh Lakra—were produced from judicial custody, with their detention extended for 13 days. They will return to court on October 29.
Advocate Tarun Chandela represented Deepak Boxer during the proceedings. The Delhi police had requested the custody remand to further their investigation into the crime and the illegal weapons involved.
On September 29, the Special Cell apprehended two sharpshooters from the Deepak Boxer-Gogi gang in connection with the shooting. The suspects, identified as Hari Om alias Lalla and Jatin, were involved in the gunfire incident at the Nangloi sweet shop, where they attempted to extort money on behalf of jailed gangsters Deepak Boxer and Ankesh Lakra.
During the investigation, police recovered a semi-automatic pistol with five live cartridges, a country-made pistol with four live cartridges, and a motorcycle used in the crime. The incident took place on September 28, when two assailants on a black Hero Splendor motorcycle opened fire at the sweet shop’s counter, demanding money under the direction of incarcerated gang leaders.
The assailants also left behind extortion notes featuring images of deceased gangsters Jitender “Gogi” and Kuldeep Fajja, alongside the names of imprisoned gangsters, including Deepak Boxer and Ankesh Lakra.
After thorough investigations, the police used both technical and human intelligence to identify the suspects. Despite initial challenges in locating them, a specific tip-off led to a raid in Rohini, Delhi, where both criminals were apprehended along with the illegal firearms and motorcycle.
During interrogation, police discovered that Jatin was associated with gangster Ankesh Lakra and was directly linked to Deepak Boxer. He allegedly received orders from Ankesh Lakra, who is currently in Tihar Jail, to carry out the shooting after acquiring weapons from sources connected to both gang leaders.
It is claimed that the firearms used in the crime were provided by associates of Ankesh Lakra at a designated location in Sonepat. Both Ankesh Lakra and Deepak Boxer are known for their leadership roles in the Gogi Gang and were previously involved in the escape of gangster Kuldeep Fajja from police custody in 2021.
Jatin reportedly convinced Hari Om to participate in the shooting as a means to make quick money. Following their orders, the two men fired shots at Roshan Sweet Corner in Nangloi, leading to the ongoing investigations and legal proceedings against them.
