PCS-J Exam Scandal: HC Restrains Publication Of UPPSC Affidavit On Marks

The Allahabad High Court has recently restrained the publication of any details from the affidavit filed by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) regarding the marks awarded to candidates in the Judicial Service Civil Judge (Junior Division) Mains Exam 2022.

This case addresses irregularities in the PCS-J Exam 2022. On Monday, the UPPSC chairman filed a compliance affidavit detailing changes in marks for some candidates whose answer sheets were incorrectly coded, leading to wrong marks being assigned. The court then instructed UPPSC to respond to a supplementary affidavit submitted by the petitioner.

What Bench States?

A bench comprising Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh and Justice Donadi Ramesh directed that no certified or other copies of the facts disclosed in the UPPSC chairman’s compliance affidavit be issued. The court warned, “Any party flouting the orders will be dealt with accordingly.”

Earlier, UPPSC admitted to the high court that errors occurred in the allocation of dummy roll numbers during the PCS-J 2022 mains exam. These mistakes led to some candidates being incorrectly marked. The UPPSC has committed to correcting the results, which will result in the exclusion of certain selected candidates and the inclusion of others. The commission had previously explained that dummy roll numbers were used to maintain candidate anonymity, and mistakes may have occurred, leading to the current petitioner’s paper being swapped with another candidate’s.

The next steps involve the UPPSC filing its response to the supplementary affidavit, with further proceedings expected soon.
