Places of worship Act

The Supreme court Bench Comprising of CJI DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narsimha on Monday asked the Central Government to file its response on the batch of petitions challenging the validity of the Places of Worship Act, till the end of February.

During the hearing the Muslim parties, while opposing the petitions of those challenging the law, said that this law cannot be challenged.
On which the Supreme Court said that it will consider the preliminary objection during the hearing if the petition is admissible or not? The Supreme Court is hearing the batch of petitions filed against the Places of Worship Act.

Despite having notice on Ashwini Upadhyay’s petition in 2020 itself, the Central Government has not yet clarified its stand regarding this. It has been said in the petitions filed in the court that this act prevents people who believe in Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist from claiming the right of worship at their religious places.
