Plea Filed Before SC Challenging Promotion Of 68 Judges, Including Gujarat Judge Who Convicted Rahul Gandhi In Defamation Case

SC To Hear Review Pleas Challenging Its Order Upholding EWS Quota On May 9

A plea has been filed before the Supreme Court contesting the promotion of 68 judicial officers, including Gujarat judge Harish Hasmukhbhai Verma, who held Congress leader Rahul Gandhi guilty of criminal defamation. A bench led by Justice MR Shah will hear the petition on May 8, 2023.

These 68 judges were promoted based on a 65% quota system. Two judicial officers from the Senior Civil Judge Cadre, Ravikumar Mehta and Sachin Pratapraya Mehta, have challenged the promotion.

The petition seeks the cancellation of the list issued by the Gujarat High Court on March 10 and the notification of their appointment by the state government.

Furthermore, the petition also sought that the Gujarat High Court issue a new list of merit and seniority for judicial officer appointments.
