POCSO Case: HC Extends Interim Order Restraining CID From Arresting Yediyurappa

The Karnataka High Court on Friday has extended its interim order preventing the Criminal Investigation Department from arresting former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa in a case registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Justice Krishna S. Dixit’s bench continued the previous order, allowing the prosecution to file objections to Yediyurappa’s petition seeking to quash the case.

Previously on Thursday, the CID filed a chargesheet in the Fast Track Court 1 for POCSO Act cases against Yediyurappa and three of his aides. This was based on a complaint by the mother of a 17-year-old girl, alleging that Yediyurappa sexually assaulted her daughter during a meeting on February 2 at his residence in Dollars Colony, Bengaluru.

A Bengaluru court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Yediyurappa on June 13 for the case registered on March 14. However, on June 14, the High Court restrained the CID from arresting Yediyurappa, directing him to appear for the investigation. Yediyurappa was subsequently questioned by the CID for over three hours on June 17.
