The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Monday has filed an additional chargesheet in the Parliament security breach case at Delhi’s Patiala House Court.
This followed the procurement of prosecution sanctions under a stringent section of the UAPA for all accused.
Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Akhand Pratap Singh informed Additional Sessions Judge Dr. Hardeep Kaur about obtaining sanctions under section 13 of the UAPA from relevant authorities. He also mentioned that pending FSL reports would soon be submitted.
The court, taking note of these updates, scheduled arguments on the matter of cognizance for August 2, 2024. Concurrently, the judicial custody of all accused was extended until the same date.
Earlier, on June 7, 2024, Delhi Police had filed a nearly 1000-page chargesheet against the six arrested accused: Manoranjan D, Lalit Jha, Amol Shinde, Mahesh Kumawat, Sagar Sharma, and Neelam Azad.
Recently, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena sanctioned their prosecution under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for their alleged involvement in the December 13, 2023, Parliament attack during a live session.
The accused are charged with unlawfully entering Parliament and deploying smoke canisters in the Lok Sabha. Delhi Police sought their prosecution under Sections 16 and 18 of the UAPA, and the Lt. Governor granted prosecution sanction based on substantial evidence.
The Review Committee at DoP, Tis Hazari, Delhi, after reviewing the evidence, found prima facie grounds for prosecuting the accused under the UAPA.
The case originated from an FIR registered on December 14, 2023, under various sections of the IPC and the UAPA at Parliament Street Police Station. It was later transferred to the Counter Intelligence Unit of the PS Special Cell, New Delhi.
All six accused are currently in judicial custody in connection with the security breach at Parliament on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack.
