Rahul Gandhi Defamation Case: UP Court Sets Next Hearing On Aug 12

A court in Sultanpur, UP on Friday has scheduled the next hearing for the defamation case against Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, on August 12.

Gandhi appeared in court to address allegations of making objectionable remarks about Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Advocate Santosh Kumar Pandey, representing the complainant, stated, “He (Rahul Gandhi) denied the allegations and said that he is being framed for political reasons and to malign his image. He answered the questions asked by the court. He recorded his statement. Now, we have to produce evidence on August 12, 2024.”

The case originated from a complaint filed by BJP leader Vijay Mishra in 2018. According to Pandey, Gandhi allegedly used defamatory language against Amit Shah during a rally in Bengaluru on May 8, 2018, ahead of the Karnataka elections.

The complaint was officially lodged with the District and Sessions Court of MP-MLA Court in Sultanpur on August 4, 2018.

Ajay Rai, President of the Uttar Pradesh Congress, commented on the situation, stating, “He (Rahul Gandhi) will appear in court. 30-31 cases have been filed against him across the country to harass him, but the Congress party is fighting bravely.”
