Relief To Former Maharashtra Minister Anil Deshmukh, SC dismisses CBI’s Plea To Cancel Bail

Anil Deshmukh

The Supreme Court on  Monday refused to interfere with Bombay High Court order grating bail to former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in a case probed by CBI. The bench notes that Deshmukh was already granted bail in PMLA case.

On December 27 , The Bombay High court had dismissed CBI’s application seeking extension to make Anil Deshmukh bail effective.

Earlier Justice MS Karnik clarified that no further extension would be granted thereafter.

Justice Karnik granted Deshmukh bail on December 12 and stated that the bail judgement would be effective after 10 days, since the CBI wanted more time to appeal it to the Supreme Court.
The central agency appealed to the SC on December 16, but the case wouldn’t be heard until January 2023 due to closure of the apex court.

Anil Deshmukh was granted conditional bail by the Bombay High Court on December 12 on a bond of Rs 1 lakh. The CBI had filed a corruption case against the NCP leader.
