A Bengaluru Court has extended the judicial custody of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa in the Renukaswamy Murder case until July 18, 2024. The special court also extended the judicial custody of another accused, Pavithra Gowda, and others until July 18, 2024.
All 17 accused individual were produced before the magistrate via video conferencing from the Bengaluru and Tumakuru prisons as their judicial custody ended today.
As per police sources, 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan of the actor, had sent obscene messages to Gowda, which reportedly enraged Darshan and allegedly led to his murder. His body was discovered near a stormwater drain next to an apartment in Sumanahalli on June 9.
Raghavendra, one of the accused and a member of Darshan’s fan club in Chitradurga, had lured Renukaswamy to a shed in R R Nagar, claiming that the actor wanted to meet him. It was in this shed that Renukaswamy was allegedly tortured and murdered. According to the post-mortem report, Renukaswamy, a native of Chitradurga, died from shock and hemorrhage caused by multiple blunt injuries.
Police sources indicated that Pavithra Gowda, the first accused, was the “major cause” of Renukaswamy’s murder. The investigation has shown that she instigated the other accused, conspired with them, and participated in the crime.
