Rohtak Court Sentences Ex-Wrestling Coach to Death for killing 6 Individuals

A Rohtak (Haryana) court has sentenced a former wrestling coach to death for murdering six individuals, including a four-year-old boy, in February 2021.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Gagan Geet Kaur imposed a fine of Rs 1.26 lakh on Sukhvinder after finding him guilty under IPC sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 342 (wrongful confinement), and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), along with the Arms Act.

Hailing from Barauda village in Sonepat district, Sukhvinder fatally shot Manoj Malik, his wife Sakshi Malik, their son Sartaj, wrestling coaches Satish Kumar and Pardeep Malik, and wrestler Pooja on February 12, 2021, as per police reports.

During the incident at a wrestling venue near a private college in Rohtak, another individual named Amarjeet sustained injuries, according to authorities.

The police previously stated that Sukhvinder committed the heinous act in a fit of rage following the termination of his services due to numerous complaints against him.

“This case falls into the category of the rarest of rare. In such circumstances, this court has no alternative but to resort to the death penalty instead of life imprisonment,” the court order stated.

The judge clarified that the sentence would not be executed until the Punjab and Haryana High Court confirms the death penalty.
