Rouse Avenue Court Defers Hearing on Delhi Excise Policy Case to July 22

The Rouse Avenue court on Monday deferred hearing arguments from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on charges against the accused in the Delhi Excise policy case.

The matter has been scheduled for July 22, 2024.

Manish Sisodia and other accused, who are in judicial custody, were produced before the court via video conferencing.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja adjourned the hearing on charges after considering the submission of Advocate Nitesh Rana, setting the next date for July 22.

Advocate DP Singh, Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) for the CBI, indicated readiness for arguments on charge sheets that have already been taken cognizance of.

K Kavitha’s Case

On July 12, the court deferred the cognizance of the supplementary charge sheet filed against BRS leader K Kavitha until July 22, following the request of her counsel. Her bail plea is also scheduled for hearing on the same day.

Kavitha has filed a plea seeking default bail on the grounds of a defective charge sheet. She remains in judicial custody until July 18. The Rouse Avenue court had deferred hearing on the BRS leader’s plea for default bail in the Delhi Excise policy case. It has been listed for July 22 as well.

It had also issued a notice to the CBI regarding K Kavitha’s plea. Advocate Nitesh Rana, representing K Kavitha, argued that during the charge sheet’s consideration on July 6, the court specifically noted that the charge sheet was defective. It was contended that the applicant was entitled to default bail due to the CBI’s failure to file a complete charge sheet within the mandatory 60-day period. He also requested interim bail while the current bail application is pending.
