Saif Ali Khan 2012 Assault Case: Actress Malaika Arora Faces Legal Trouble

2012 Assault Case

A Mumbai court has reissued a bailable warrant against actor Malaika Arora after she failed to appear as a witness in the ongoing case involving an alleged attack on NRI businessman Iqbal Mir Sharma by actor Saif Ali Khan at a 5-star hotel in 2012.

The incident, which occurred on February 22, 2012, involved a brawl between Khan and Sharma, and Arora was among those present during the altercation.

Case Details

The Chief Judicial Magistrate at Esplanade Court, K.S. Zanwar, is currently in the process of recording witness testimonies in the case. Arora, who was part of the dinner group with Khan at the hotel, was initially issued a bailable warrant on February 15, 2025, after failing to appear in court. As she did not attend the proceedings, the court reissued the warrant on Monday, April 7, 2025. The next hearing for this case is scheduled for April 29, 2025.

Background Of Incident

The incident in question occurred when Saif Ali Khan and his friends, including his wife Kareena Kapoor, sister Karisma Kapoor, Malaika Arora, Amrita Arora, and several male companions, were dining at the hotel.

According to the police, when Iqbal Mir Sharma objected to the noise and disruptive behavior of the group, a confrontation ensued. It is alleged that Saif threatened Sharma and subsequently punched him in the nose, causing a fracture. Sharma also accused Saif and his friends of physically assaulting his father-in-law, Raman Patel.

Saif Ali Khan’s Defense

Saif Ali Khan, however, has a different version of events. He claims that Sharma provoked the group by making offensive remarks and using abusive language towards the women accompanying him, which led to the altercation. In the wake of the incident, Saif and his two friends, Shakeel Ladak and Bilal Amrohi, were arrested following a complaint filed by Sharma.

The trio was later granted bail, and they face charges under section 325 (assault) of the Indian Penal Code.

With the re-issuance of the bailable warrant against Malaika Arora, the case is set to continue, with the court expected to hear more testimony from witnesses, including Arora, in the upcoming hearings.

As the matter moves forward, it remains to be seen how the testimonies will shape the outcome of the case and whether Arora will comply with the court’s summons.
