Saif Stabbing Case: Court Sends Accused To 14 Days Judicial Custody

Saif Ali Khan

A 30-year-old Bangladeshi national on Wednesday Mohammad Shariful Islam, who is accused of stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan, was remanded to 14-day judicial custody.

The decision came after the court determined that there was no new ground to extend his police custody. Islam was produced before the Bandra magistrate court following the end of his police custody.

The police had requested a two-day extension for further investigation. However, the court observed that Islam had already been in police custody for more than 10 days, and the investigation appeared to be complete. The magistrate pointed out that no new grounds for further custody had been established.

He noted that the police could apply for fresh custody within the allowable period if any new developments arose in the case.

Islam, arrested in Thane, is reportedly a Bangladeshi national who had changed his name to ‘Bijoy Das’ after illegally entering India. The incident occurred on January 16, when Khan, 54, was attacked inside his 12th-floor apartment in Bandra by the intruder, who repeatedly stabbed the actor with a knife.

Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital for emergency surgery and was discharged after five days of treatment.
