Salman Khan’s Residence Firing: Court Remands Accused Held in Haryana to Police Custody

A Mumbai special court has remanded a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, apprehended in connection with the firing outside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s residence, to Police custody until May 22, 2024.

The accused, identified as Harpal Singh (34) from Fatehabad in Haryana, was apprehended by the Mumbai Police’s crime branch from his hometown on Monday evening, an official confirmed.

Upon arrival in Mumbai, Singh was presented before a special MCOCA court.

Mumbai Police

The police sought his remand for 14 days, citing the preliminary stage of the investigation and the necessity for a comprehensive inquiry to determine the accused’s involvement in the case.

His name emerged during the interrogation of a previously arrested suspect in the case, stated the prosecution.

During the closed-door court proceedings, Special Judge B D Shelke extended Singh’s custody to the police until May 22.

Singh becomes the sixth individual arrested in connection with the shooting incident.

Firing Outside the Actor’s Home

On April 14, two assailants on motorcycles opened fire outside Khan’s residence at the Galaxy Apartment in Mumbai’s Bandra area before fleeing the scene.

Singh’s involvement came to light during the questioning of Mohammed Rafique Chowdhary, another member of the Bishnoi gang apprehended earlier this month in relation to the shooting, as per a police official.

Singh allegedly tasked Chowdhary with conducting surveillance around Khan’s residence and provided him with Rs 2-3 lakh, the police revealed.

Lawrence Bishnoi

Lawrence Bishnoi, currently incarcerated at Sabarmati Central Prison in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, along with his younger brother Anmol Bishnoi, who is believed to be residing in the US or Canada, have been implicated in the shooting case.

The suspected gunmen, Sagar Pal and Vicky Gupta, both from Bihar, were apprehended in Gujarat within 48 hours of the April 14 incident.

Subsequently, Sonu Bishnoi and Anuj Thapan, accused of delivering weapons to the shooters, were arrested in Punjab. Thapan reportedly committed suicide in a police lock-up in Mumbai on May 1.
