A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district has sentenced six individuals to life imprisonment for the murder of a local Samajwadi Party leader in 2019.
However, Additional District and Sessions Judge Ran Vijay Pratap Singh acquitted three other accused in the killing of SP’s Dadri area president Ramtek Kataria.
The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000 each on the convicted individuals, as confirmed by Additional District Government Counsel Nitin Kumar Tyagi. Tyagi, who took over the case from ADGC Bhag Singh Bhati, the initial government counsel since the commencement of trials in 2019.
Kataria was fatally shot on the afternoon of May 31, 2019, on a road in the Dadri area by assailants arriving in a car and two motorcycles. The motive behind the murder was linked to a property dispute, Tyagi explained.
“Considering the case facts, circumstances, arguments presented by both parties, the nature of the crime, and the situation of the deceased Ramtek Kataria and his family, the accused Baleshwar, Kapil alias Rana, Annu Kataria, Krishna, Chandrapal, and Nitesh alias Nitte are sentenced to the following punishment. The objectives of justice will be achieved with the punishment,” the judge stated in the order, handing life terms to all six accused for murder.
Additionally, the accused have been found guilty of various terms ranging from 2 years to 3 years for other offenses in the same case. The time spent by the accused in jail prior to this case will be taken into account in this sentence, and all sentences will run concurrently, as stated in the order.
