Nearly a month after an arrest warrant was issued on Monday for singer-dancer Sapna Choudhary, it was withdrawn. The warrant was issued in connection with the cancellation of a 2018 event and Sapna allegedly failing to reimburse ticket holders.
According to the reports, additional chief judicial magistrate Shantanu Tyagi ordered Sapna to post a personal bond of 20,000. Sapna and her counsel appeared in court and filed an application explaining her absence on August 22. She stated that she and her counsel were unable to appear in court on the previous hearing date due to illness. The court issued an arrest warrant after she failed to appear for the hearing without notice.
Sapna stated in her application that the error was unintentional and asked the court to vacate the arrest warrant. The court accepted her submission, rescinded the warrant, and set September 30 as the next hearing date.
Sapna and programme organisers Junaid Ahmad, Naveen Sharma, Iwad Ali, Amit Pandey, and Ratnakar Upadhyay were named in an FIR filed on October 14, 2018. The case was filed at Lucknow’s Ashiyana police station.
Sapna was charged with cheating and breach of trust by the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing earlier this year. Sapna’s manager filed a complaint against the singer, her mother, and her brother for criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy, cheating, and misappropriation of funds.
Sapna is a popular Haryana singer and dancer who rose to national prominence after appearing on the eleventh season of Salman Khan’s reality show Bigg Boss. Arshi Khan and Vikas Gupta also appeared on the show that year, and Shilpa Shinde took home the winner’s trophy. Hina Khan finished second in Bigg Boss 11.
Sapna has also appeared in films such as Veerey Ki Wedding and Nanu Ki Jaanu.
