Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourns the hearing of Abbas Ansari’s plea in connection to the eviction of land in Bihar.
Abbas sought the cancellation of the case against him for forcibly occupying the land. He challenged the decision of the Allahabad High Court, which dismissed his plea for relief.
In 2020, FIRs were filed against Umar Ansari and Abbas Ansari in Hazratganj police station, Lucknow, for forcibly occupying land in Jiya Mau. Both were accused of illegally acquiring land through forged documents and subsequently constructing a building after obtaining permission from the Municipal Corporation.
In a related development, Umar Ansari previously filed an interim bail plea in the Supreme Court, which was rejected.
Meanwhile, on Monday, Mukhtar Ansari was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Varanasi court in a 32-year-old murder case. On August 3, 1991, he was convicted of murdering Avadhesh Rai, brother of Congress leader and former legislator Ajay Rai, by shooting him outside his residence in Varanasi.
