SC Collegium Recommends Appointment Of A Judicial Officer And Three Lawyers As Uttarakhand HC Judges

The Supreme Court Collegium has recently recommended the appointment of three advocates and one judicial officer to the Uttarakhand High Court as judges.

Vivek Bharti Sharma is the recommended judicial officer.

Rakesh Thapliyal, Pankaj Purohit, and Subhash Upadhyay are the three suggested lawyers.

The aforementioned recommendation was given by the Chief Judge of the High Court of Uttarakhand on September 7, 2022, in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues.

The recommendation was supported by the Chief Minister and the Governor of Uttarakhand, according to the apex court Collegium.

On April 1, 2023, the Supreme Court received the file from the Department of Justice.

The Supreme Court Collegium consulted with Supreme Court judges familiar with the activities of the Uttarakhand High Court to determine the fitness of the nominees.

The Collegium resolved to suggest the four candidates for elevation to the Uttarakhand High Court after such consultation and consideration of additional information.

The Uttarakhand High Court, which has a sanctioned strength of 11 judges, is now operating with 5 judges and a vacancy post of 6.
